11 Yaldabaoth models his lower creation on an inadequately known and dimly visible higher divine world. This is a Platonic view of things: A demiurge god manufactures a world, modeling it on the realm of perfect ideas. This demiurge, though, knows barely anything of the perfect world it is trying to copy. Now it is suddenly motivated to produce a system of realms that are component parts of the higher divine world. What seems to be happening here is that the power of the mind of God that brought Yaldabaoth into being is not an unconscious energy but an active conscious actor in this cosmic drama. Power is trapped within Yaldabaoth and is unable, thus far, to escape. But power has caused Yaldabaoth to bring into being the parallel realms of Goodness, Providence, Divinity, and so forth. It now partially reveals to him the structures of the realm above, the mind of God. As Yaldabaoth works to imitate that world he will ultimately bring about his own destruction.(back to text)
